The vibrant energy of New York, the passionate expertise of the Maîtres Parfumeurs Grassois, the historic workshop on Avenue George V, the refined elegance of Deauville and its location at the cutting edge of luxury... The Haute Parfumerie brand Jacomo Paris, created by Gérard Courtin, has been developing its unique, avant-garde style since 1970, creating exceptional fragrances that are always an instant success.
FROM NEW YORK TO DEAUVILLE
In 1961, in New York, two passionate men met and gave birth to a beautiful collaboration that would mark the history of perfume. Nine years later, in 1970, a Parisian workshop was born, giving life to Jacomo Paris. Gérard Courtin, its founder, was a man enamored of the mysteries of the olfactory universe. With boundless creativity, he created memorable fragrances such as Chicane, Eau Cendrée and Silences, which quickly became successes both in France and internationally.
In 1981, Deauville became the symbol of a new era for the brand. The small Parisian workshop, though proud of its achievements, could no longer meet the growing demand. It was then that Jacomo Paris decided to break new ground by developing a state-of-the-art factory in this exceptional setting, a true emblem of French luxury. Through the decades, Jacomo Paris continues to delight the world with exceptional fragrances, testifying to a rich and daring perfume heritage.
1961
NEW-YORK,
AN INSPIRING ENCOUNTER
American luxury leatherworker James Kaplan, based on 5th Avenue, meets French pianist Gérard Courtin, both passionate about art and New York's MoMA museum. The result was a story summed up in three syllables: "JACOMO": JA for James, CO for Courtin, and MO for their shared passion for MoMA.
The Maison Jacomo offers prestigious leather goods and soon specializes in leathers, exotic skins and gemstone ornamentation.
American high society quickly snapped up Jacomo's creations. Loyal customers included Betty Ford, former First Lady of the United States, and actress Elizabeth Taylor.
1965
GÉRARD COURTIN,
PERFUME DESIGNER
Captivated by the secrets of the perfume world, in 1965 Gérard Courtin decided to return to France to develop the perfumery expertise of Maison Jacomo. He settled in Grasse, where he quickly forged partnerships with local perfumers capable of translating his ideas into intoxicating fragrances.
1970
A PRESTIGIOUS ADDRESS:
AVENUE GEORGE V - PARIS
In 1970, Gérard Courtin left Grasse to set up his workshop at 45 avenue George V in Paris, and the brand became Jacomo Paris.
Jacomo Paris launches its first men's fragrance, a captivating and vibrant ode to the world between New York and Paris.
Jacomo's perfume division rapidly grew in size, and was so successful that it soon outstripped the company's leather goods business.
1981
AN INDUSTRIAL SETTING IN THE HEART OF DEAUVILLE
Jacomo Paris went international, and in less than 10 years Jacomo fragrances were exported to over 50 countries.
To meet growing demand, in 1981 Gérard Courtin decided to expand his business with an exceptional, avant-garde factory.
He set his sights on Deauville, the summer resort of Parisian high society and a symbol of French luxury.
The Deauville factory site enjoys an exceptional location, close to the famous Villa Strassburger, the town's most imposing residence, commissioned by Baron Henri de Rothschild, and the Deauville - La Touques racecourse.
1987
JACOMO PARIS COLLECTION,
MORE THAN A FRAGRANCE
A true pioneer in perfumery, Jacomo Paris has made a name for itself with its creations, fragrances and unusual bottles. There's a real Jacomo style.
It's often said that a woman dresses to match her perfume. Jacomo Paris took this expression literally, launching a collection of clothes in 1987 to better dress and pay homage to the woman of her time.
It was only natural that such a creative philosophy should one day be applied to fashion. For the first time, a perfumer has given his name to a ready-to-wear line, an unprecedented step.
